Saddam Hussein was vital for uniting Iraq
There are three distinct groups in Iraq:
1. The Sunnis
2. The Shi'ites
3. The Kurds
These groups in general do not want to live with each other. The only thing that kept them united as one country was a dictator, one Saddam Hussein. Any attempts by any group to break away were quickly quashed by the strict leadership.
And now there is no Saddam Hussein.
The three groups are living in near Anarchy in a "country" called Iraq due to the failures of the Coalition Forces to create a secure Iraq post-invasion. So now that there is no dictatorship, we see that Civil War is breaking out (if it has not done already - I believe it has but politicians do not want to admit it).
This is a natural situation. With no strict dictator to unite the country, the country falls apart. Why should Iraq as a nation exist? It is entirely artificial, because it was created by Britain in 1932. Countries are formed, unfortunately, by war. War to determine who rules who. This could take two years, or hundreds of years, but it needs to be done. Now it is left to it's own devices rather than being ruled by a dictator, it can have this war to decide where the country borders should be drawn. An artifical country it is no more.
Iraq was created by Britain and it has been destroyed by Britain.
